Foundation Task Script Progression (By Arthur Young)

The script went through two main revisions, following the same basic story, especially towards the first half of the video. The main change occurs in the positioning of the two brothers, suggesting more of a "hierarchy" between the two brothers, in who does what task. In the original script, it is Lucas (the younger, more timid brother) in the kitchen, associating the younger and less confident character a role deemed more feminine.

In the newer script, Jamie is in the kitchen, which we believe is an expression of Jamie's inherent responsibility as an older brother, leaving Lucas the less complicated and strenuous task of picking a film to watch.

There are some discrepancies between the script and our final edit, namely the reduced amount of conversation between the two brothers, such as when Eagle (Perp 1) is hiding from Lucas outside, and just after Lucas shuts the front door to go back to his task. This was mostly to cut down on time, and make our project within the two minutes allotted, and to reduce the amount of awkward or unnecessary dialogue.

Foundation Portfolio: Opening Credits - Draft (By Ben Cave)

For the first drafts for the opening credits, we used a very threatening font, to display the fact that the subject of the product was one of danger, and to complement the equally threatening background audio.
For a lot of these shots, we tried to attach the text to an object in the shot, to make it seem as if the opening credits really existed in the world in which the story was taking place.
Some of the team members thought that this font looked a lot like it was designed more for a horror film than for a thriller, and expressed that the tails on the letters looked like blood trails.
The text font that we chose for the new opening credits was a lot cleaner than the original one, and looked more like what would be used for a thriller: bold, but not as threatening as what would be used for a horror film.
For many of the shots, we also decided that it would not be a good idea to try to make it seem as if the text was part of the world, so we made it stick out from the world, in order to make it obvious that it was not.
We also changed the colour scheme to red, as we thought that blue was to passive a colour to be used in this product, especially when combined with the new, more passive text font.

Foundation Portfolio: Final Storyboard (by Andrew Eiserman)

When using this storyboard we stuck to it as much as possible but some shots were altered in the actual filming process due to technicalities, such as page 5 slide 3 the rotating shot, this couldn't be filmed because there was a balustrade blocking the path of the cameraman. And some shots were removed in post production because they looked better in theory than in practicality.

Foundation Portfolio: Reccie Photos (by Andrew Eiserman)

These are the reccie photos taken at location. There were other photos taken at the location scouting stage. In our pre production process we did location scouting before the scripting and storyboarding or even before we had our final idea set, which deemed them unuseful. But these were taken after planning and scripting was done and aided in the drawing of the final story board.

Foundation Portfolio: Draft of Storyboard (by Andrew Eiserman)

This is the rough initial draft of the storyboard and is not complete because when I drew this storyboard the script was in the process of being written and the story did not yet have a resolve. But this storyboard was very useful in the envisioning of the plan and seeing some of the theoretical ideas of shots become slightly more tangible.

Foundation Task: Concept (by Arthur Young)

Working Title: To be confirmed
Conventions:
Dark lighting, night time
Possibly rainy (winter season)
Young characters, relate-able to audience
Confined spaces
Threatening antagonists
Regular, casual clothes

Plot:
The film begins with equilibrium, two brothers, Jamie and Lucas at home alone, their parents out late. They are relaxed and casual with each other. The shots change to outside of the house, as two masked figures approach the house. The watch through the windows at the two brothers and observe them. One of the dark-clothed characters seems reluctant to enter the building, while the other is more confident. They enter the house and work their way through the hallways. The brothers are unaware of the invaders.
However, one of the brothers notices something out of the ordinary and they realise they are not alone, and they attempt to get help.

Characters:
Lucas and Jamie, teenage brothers
Two "Perps": One is confident, and the other is slightly nervous and reluctant'

Practicalities of filming:
Easy to source home (Ben's house)
Easy to find actors (two teenagers and anyone can wear a mask regardless of age)
Night-time shoot, possibly difficult lighting
Easy to costume (casual clothes, masks can be sourced from local stores)

Test Shoot

Our group went on a test shoot to feel for the location and experiment with more difficult shots. This footage was from of one of our more complicated shots. As seen the shot is very shaky, so we brainstormed as to how to reduce the movement in the shot, such as using a car or some kind of wheeled device. We also learnt that we needed to pay close attention to the end of the carpark as it comes out of the shadows and is overexposed. We also experimented with different shot sizes with the talent in the foreground such as a mid close up with the talent on the third.
